If a tree fell in the forest, and nobody was there, would it make a sound? Well it would if the tree fell in the Developer Forest! We started Dreamforce off with a bang, and it seemed like everyone was in the Developer Forest to hear it. Here’s a quick recap of some of the highlights.

The Trailhead Quest

The first day of Dreamforce had many attendees starting off on their Trailhead Quest. The quest is a trek through the Trailhead Zone, where you get “badged” for places you visit and things you accomplish. Like any decent quest, it’s more about the journey than the destination, but it’s even better that there’s some great loot at the end. If you haven’t started the Trailhead Quest yet, watch Lauren Grau explain it in the following video. There’s still plenty of time to get started tomorrow, so quest on!

Kids Coding Camp

In the Kids Coding Camp area, students from SFUSD and OUSD used blocks of code to guide avatars through the Minecraft world, while other next-gen coders built connected LEGOs. Hour of Code workshops were led by Code.org and Microsoft, and continue during all week during Dreamforce.

Virtual Reality in the IoT Cabin

One of the most popular exhibits in the Developer Forest was the virtual reality demo at the IoT Cabin. Check out how the Salesforce VR SDK can be used to interact with your Salesforce data, and see some future-looking VR integrations imagined with Oculus Rift.

Even More Tomorrow

If you haven’t started on the Trailhead Quest, you’ll want to get on that ASAP. If you’re well on your way to finishing the quest, there’s more opportunities for additional learning (and swag) tomorrow in the Developer Forest. In particular, make sure to stop by the Heroku booth and Mini Hacks Basin.

  •  Ready to listen to your favorite tunes? Drop by the Heroku booth in the Developer Forest and text your favorite tunes. You’ll be given the chance to win sweet prizes in the DreamHouse Disco Sweepstakes.
  • Join us in the Mini Hacks Basin and show us your mad skills! Complete three challenges and you’ll get some great prizes. Complete all six hack challenges and win a special edition Trailblazer Astro! Note that the Mini Hacks aren’t just for developers, we have a bit of something for everyone. Hack on!
