Learn about Salesforce and Force.com event notification designs Back in February 2014, we wrote an article titled “Alert! Salesforce Event Notification Designs for Force.com Apps” that explores the many different ways you can add event notification to your Force.com applications. One approach uses a long polling Visualforce page that uses the Streaming API. Using long polling via the Streaming API has many advantages, including minimal database overhead and reduced API calls.

Using the Streaming API does require that users that receive the event notifications have proper permissions to both the objects being updated and the Streaming API PushTopic. We’ve updated the article to include steps to add a new user and profile that have the correct permissions necessary to receive the notifications.
