We recently introduced a new, quicker way to write SOQL queries. The SOQL Query Builder is a VS Code extension that lets anyone visually build, run and explore results from a query. Build queries with clicks and then see the results right next to your query. You can also save the results to a .csv or .json file.

We are thrilled that so many of you have already downloaded the beta extension and tried it out! We invited you all to give us feedback and you have – thank you!

Here’s a quick rundown of few of the latest additions and enhancements to SOQL Query Builder:

• Toggle between the builder and editor – Sometimes you might start building a query and want to swap to the editor to make it more complex. Or perhaps you have an existing query and want to open it in the SOQL Query Builder to add some fields. We added an icon to the top right that lets you easily toggle between the editor and SOQL Query Builder.
• Better code completion – We’ve improved code completion and IntelliSense when you’re writing SOQL directly in the editor. This helps you write queries more efficiently, even if you prefer code.
• Get to the builder faster – Start your query directly in the builder with the help of the new Create Query in SOQL Builder command from the Command Palette.

Up next, the WHERE clause! We know you need this and will be shipping the UI for it soon. Like other Salesforce Developer Tools, the SOQL Query Builder is updated weekly. This feature is currently in beta and we’re continuing to iterate, so please keep the feedback coming! We’re actively developing new features to round out SOQL Builder and we want to hear what is most important to you. Check out our GitHub repo and weigh-in with your input.
