Earth Day was this past weekend and we don’t want the eco-love to stop!   In honor of #EarthMonth, we’d like to showcase the good work our developer community is doing to celebrate our planet. Your applications are already having a significant positive impact on carbon consumption because they are running in the cloud rather than on-premises. To be specific, your apps are using an average of 95% less carbon–and consequently fewer emissions–than on-premises software. And, an average of 64% less carbon than private clouds. The carbon we’ve kept out of the air is the equivalent of taking 98,000 cars off the road.

We’d like to learn about the other ways your apps are changing the world for the better–what eco-themed apps have you developed on Force.com? Or perhaps you have a great idea that has yet to come to fruition? Maybe an app that helps users locate local recycling centers, determine air quality, calculate your carbon footprint, or connect with others on green initiatives (or all of the above!). We want to hear your ideas too!

At the end of #EarthMonth, we’ll showcase the most innovative and promising apps on our blog.  The first 5 people to share their apps will have trees planted in their honor!

Join salesforce.com and the Force.com Developer Community as we promote a healthier planet via the magic of the cloud.

To share your existing apps or ideas, email Lauren Grau or send a tweet to @forcedotcom with the hashtag #apps4earth.

Happy Earth Month!
