Smart phones and tablets are taking over. Mobile devices keep getting faster and more powerful, approaching PCs in processing capabilities and often exceeding in usability and convenience. Mobile apps are fueling this trend, and  the increasing maturity of JavaScript, AJAX with responsive UI, and mobile web development as a whole are just a few signs that JavaScript is eating the world.

As application development continues to become increasingly mobile-first, the Salesforce Platform needs to mirror this shift. As such, we have Salesforce Platform Mobile Services which are a set of tools, frameworks, and APIs to help you rapidly build enterprise mobile apps for any device. It is an ideal mobile backend as a service (MBaaS) for HTML5, native, or hybrid apps combining device capabilities, enterprise data, and trusted and secure platform features to create engaging mobile apps.

Salesforce Mobile Platform Services and Sencha Touch

When building apps, the Salesforce Platform Mobile Services pair with your mobile app just as seamlessly as Force.com pairs with your enterprise apps. It is a powerful MBaaS providing mobile developers backend storage but also features like configurable security, secure offline storage, and push notifications amongst several other platform services. But for every backend you need a frontend, and we have created an expanding library of mobile packs to help you get started building apps with the some of the most widely used JavaScript frameworks. We’ll continue launching several new packs in the future, and in an upcoming launch we’ll be releasing mobile packs centered around Sencha Touch.

Sencha Touch is one of the leading UI JavaScript libraries for creating mobile web applications with a native look and feel. It provides a set of GUI-based components for mobile apps. In just a few weeks, Josh Birk and I will be presenting some sessions at SenchaCon, Sencha’s annual developer conference. Josh will be talking about Integrating Sencha Apps with the Salesforce Platform and I’ll be talking about Salesforce Platform Mobile Services with Sencha Touch. Sencha is the peanut butter to our jelly, and we will be demonstrating their UI-made-easy paired with our MBaaS-made-easy.

Come say ‘Hi!’ at SenchaCon

We will have a big presence at SenchaCon this year, so if you’re around come say hello (…world. har har). As mentioned above, we’ll have two developer sessions in the breakout tracks, and in addition we’ll have a Salesforce Platform lounge in the expo area. The lounge will consist of demo stations, a hands-on mobile area, and a Heroku mobile station, and an ‘Ask an Expert’ walk-up counter as well. We’ll also be hosting several giveaways for T-Shirts, Hoodies, and other fun schwag throughout the event.

Looking forward to the event and all of the new things in store for the expanding Salesforce Mobile Platform Services! Even if you can’t make the event, definitely check out our mobile packs to jumpstart web mobile development with your favorite open-source JavaScript framework.
