The 2013 Mobile Developer Challenge wrapped up recently, and we had many great submissions to consider in the winner selection. Our judges included members of the Salesforce Developer Evangelism team and Mobile product team who huddled together in dark conference rooms reviewing app demos and code. When they emerged, these three were the winners:

Third Place – $1,000 Prize – Social Force - Ritika Mathur and Bhavna Gupta (Team Womenforce from Metacube)

SocialForce uses the Mobile SDK to integrate Salesforce CRM with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The app uses the Salesforce Mobile SDK to access Accounts, Contacts and Leads. Search a Contact and add them on LinkedIn right from the app. Post to Chatter and crosspost on Facebook or Twitter. Get the code at BitBucket.

Second Place – $5,000 prize – Mobile Field Service with NFC – Cory Cowgill

Mobile Field Service app allows a mobile workforce to handle every aspect of a case while onsite with a client. The NFC functionality allows for a device scan to immediately display the active case for the device. Agents can capture signatures and photos to document work completed. View the code at GitHub.

First Place – $10,000 Grand Prize – Mobile Admin Tools for Salesforce – Kevin Poorman

Kevin wanted to build an app that would help admins do their jobs with ease and efficiency, and after polling he found that password resets and user management were the top 2 pain points. He created Mobile Admin Tools to help – admins can deactivate and reactivate users, initiate password reset, view login history, manage user settings, and use a fun feature that you’ll have to catch in the video. It’s a creative use of the Mobile SDK and should be of great help to many admins. Learn more at GitHub.

Congrats to our winners, and a huge round of applause to everyone who submitted an app in the 2013 Mobile Developer Challenge! We hope to see you taking part in our next hack challenge! If you haven’t yet, dig in to the new Mobile Developer Tools that launched this week and grow your skills.

Happy to see SocialForce among the winners! We worked very hard for several weeks and received good feedback from whoever we showed it to. We hope SocialForce sets the benchmark for building social mobile integrations with Salesforce Chatter. We would like to thank Gaurav Kheterpal and all members of the Metacube mobile team for their support, suggestions and guidance through out. Thank you Salesforce for providing us this opportunity!

Congratulations Kevin, Cory, Ritika and Bhavna! All three apps are great demonstrators of how the Salesforce Mobile SDK can be leveraged to solve real business problems. Our team from Metacube came in 2nd last year with our Evernote-Salesforce mobile integration (Noteprise) and SocialForce has bagged the 3rd prize this year – we’re proud to have managed a podium finish two years in a row in this prestigious challenge. Looking forward to next year! ;)
