Developer Keynote

The highlight of the day was certainly the Developer Keynote. We’ll recap some of the main points here, but rather than make you feel like you totally missed out, you can watch the live recording here.

Srini Tallapragada, our president of technology, shared how the cloud has ushered in a new era where adoption is the new measure of success. As developers, our global imperative is to build engaging experiences that drive adoption by millions of users.

That’s a tall order, but in this electrifying, standing-room-only session, Srini walked us through how you can be a trailblazer by building modern apps that people love. The first step is to build faster and easier with Lightning. Leah McGowen-Hare demonstrated new Lightning features in Winter ’17 like the new Lightning Data Service and Lightning Base Components that enable you to build apps faster. And of course Lightning Design System, the UI framework that makes it easy to do the right thing, and hard to do the wrong thing.

Better, faster and now smarter, Emily Rose explained what it means to build a smart application and how Einstein enables developers to train their own models to deliver predictive results. And to wrap it all up, Wade Wegner did a live demonstration of the all-new Salesforce DX to help developers work together in teams. Salesforce DX is UX for developers; because developers are people, too.

Camp Quick Start

While the cat’s away, the mice will play… and so while most of us cats were packed into the Developer Keynote, a bunch of kids snuck into Camp Quick Start and coded up a storm. Seeing the next generation of app developers coding onsite was like watching nature unfold.

After the keynote it was nap time for the kids, and the “badgers” took over Camp Quick Start again. Developers, admins, and Salesforce users of all experience levels learned new technologies and soft skills, earning badges in Trailhead. Every badge earned onsite also unlocked a special Dreamforce-only badge, which everyone wanted to have. The “gotta catch ’em all” fever was in full effect, and you swore there was a Pokemon somewhere in Camp Quick Start. If you aren’t at Dreamforce, you can catch a sympathetic buzz by doing the same Trailhead content we assembled for Dreamforce.

Sponsor Demos

There are literally more sponsor demo stations than Astro can shake a stick at! But where he failed, we succeeded with this wonderful collage.

Thank You

Friday is the last day of Dreamforce, and we’ll all be a bit sad when it’s over. Here are some final thoughts from the Developer Forest:

  • Make sure to check out the sponsors and other demo stations you missed.
  • Finish the Trailhead Quest.
  • Drop by the library (bring an extra bag).
  • Travel safely, and be kind to one another.
