Workbench for Winter ’11 Now Available

With Salesforce Winter ’11 now live on all instances, Workbench 20.0.0, Workbench Tools for Firefox 1.2.0, and the standalone PHP Bulk API Client 20.0.0 are now available for download.

Workbench is a powerful, web-based suite of tools designed for administrators and developers to interact with Salesforce.com organizations via the Force.com APIs, including robust support for the Force.com Partner, Bulk, Metadata, and Apex APIs to describe, query, manipulate, and migrate both data and metadata in Salesforce.com organizations directly in a web browser with a simple and intuitive user interface. Here are the highlights in the new version:

SOQL Matrix View

SOQL Matrix View is a powerful new way to group query results into rows and columns to easily visualize data distributions, similar to a matrix report in Salesforce, but with the power of SOQL.

For example, if you are running a query on Opportunities, you can could choose to group the records by ForecastCategoryName and StageName. This way all the records in the same ForecastCategoryName are shown in the same row and all the records in the same StageName are in the same column.

Bulk Loading of Binary Files

Loading binary files, such as Documents, Attachments, or Content records, has never been easier! Leveraging the new binary file support in Bulk API 20.0, both Workbench and the PHP Bulk API Client now supports loading ZIPs file of binary and/or text-based records. Learn more about this feature!

Localization of Dates & Times

Deciphering the API’s native date format and timezone was never fun. Now with version 20.0.0, let Workbench do the legwork for you! Under the Setting menu, choose a timezone and a date format, and Workbench will convert all dates from the API across the entire application.

One-Click Logins with Workbench Tools for Firefox

Introducing Workbench Tools for Firefox, a new Firefox browser add-on that adds a toolbar button to your browser for one-click login to Workbench from Salesforce.com!

After you have Workbench up and running, install Workbench Tools for Firefox to get a new toolbar button in Firefox for automatically logging into Workbench from an active Salesforce.com session. If you are not logged into Salesforce.com, the button will simply direct you to the standard Workbench login screen.
