# `REVERSE`

Returns a string with characters in reverse order.

## Syntax

```sql
reverse(<string>)
```

## Arguments

### Required

- `<string>`: The string to reverse.

## Returns

Returns a text value with characters in reverse order.

## Considerations

- For multi-byte UTF-8 characters, individual characters are preserved and reversed.

## Examples

### Reverse String

Reverse the characters in a string.

```sql
SELECT reverse('abcde') AS result;
```

Returns `'edcba'`.
