Agentforce Vibes IDE Versus Agentforce Vibes Extension in Visual Studio Code App

VS Code is a powerful IDE but it requires you to install the app and related tools on your computer. Agentforce Vibes IDE enables you to use Agentforce Vibes in your browser without the need to install anything.

Agentforce Vibes IDE unleashes the power of Salesforce Extensions and offers the same rich features as the desktop version. No matter whether you're using Agentforce Vibes on your VS Code desktop application, or Agentforce Vibes IDE from your Salesforce org, the Salesforce extensions you access are the same.

While the extensions generally function the same way regardless of how they're accessed, there are some nuances to be aware of:

  • Agentforce Vibes IDE is available from the Setup menu in your Salesforce org, and it comes with everything you need: VS Code, Salesforce extensions, and Salesforce CLI. No installation is required on your local machine. When opened from the Setup menu, Agentforce Vibes IDE is org aware, and the metadata for your org is automatically loaded into the sfdx project with automatic authentication.
  • Agentforce Vibes IDE comes preinstalled with the Agentforce Vibes extension among other extensions. The Agentforce Vibes extension's Agentforce feature brings MCP powered agentic chat to the IDE, providing intelligent coding assistance and automation. For more information about Agentforce, see Agentforce Overview.
  • Unlike VS Code for desktop, you can't access the Microsoft Marketplace from Agentforce Vibes IDE. Instead, you can add extensions available in Open VSX marketplace to your Agentforce Vibes IDE environment. This means that you might see differences in the extensions that are available.
  • The third-party authorization sequence is different in Agentforce Vibes IDE.
  • We keep the Salesforce extensions up to date for you in Agentforce Vibes IDE. You don't need to take any action.

For information on using VS Code on the desktop instead of Agentforce Vibes IDE, see Salesforce Extensions for Visual Studio Code.
