  • Using Canvas in Salesforce1 to expose third party Apps

The Programmatic track is for:
  • Force.com developers wanting to broaden their knowledge of Apex and Visualforce
  • Object-Oriented (Java, C#, JavaScript, etc..) programmers looking to adopt the Salesforce1 Platform

Heroku Track: Deploy and Scale your app in minutes using Heroku

A hands on practical workshop where you will learn how to deploy & scale applications to the Cloud using the Heroku Platform as a Service (Paas).  Heroku is Salesforce’s multi-language cloud platform built by and for developers. Heroku supports Ruby, Node.js, Python, Java, Scala & Clojure, so you can use the language you already know how to deploy, iterate and scale your custom applications.  The workshop is flexible so you can jump to the aspects you want to learn the most, with experts on hand to help answer your questions.

We provide workshop material for deploying a Java application using Play 2 framework and provisioning a Postgres database and other addons, all in the cloud and on-demand.  As the basic workflow is the same for all languages, you can also bring your own projects to deploy on Heroku.  We also have getting started guides for all our actively supported languages.

Along the way we will discuss some of the challenges of creating applications that scale, along the lines of the 12 factor app.  We will discuss different modes of deployment, from Heroku Button to a continuous integration / deployment approach.  We will also cover some of the new features of Heroku, including metrics, database query analysis and a new stack to run your application on.

As Heroku is part of the Salesforce1 Platform, we will also cover how to integrate your app on Heroku with Salesforce, using the Heroku Connect service or via the range of Salesforce API's. (Laptop required)

You will learn:
  • Developer driven deployment with Git
  • How the Heroku deployment process works
  • Managing Releases & Rollbacks
  • Heroku Postgres database as a service
  • Collaborating on your applications with Git & Heroku Orgs
  • New features including Heroku DX, DbX, Metrics
  • Heroku Button for deploying apps  (creating Buttons for your own apps)
  • Continuous deployment workflow with Heroku
  • Scale and analyse performance of your application
  • Use datastores & other services from the Herou Addons
  • How Heroku Connect syncs your App data to Salesforce
  • Using Salesforce API's to integrate your Heroku apps

The Heroku track is for:

  • Developers from any background who want to have a choice of languages and frameworks they use, as well as a focus on building apps rather than spending time learning DevOps tools and operations tasks.
