Create an Approval Process | Trailhead Screen Reader Instructions


Introduction

You’ve added key users, created custom fields, and made the necessary email templates, so your org is prepared. Now you can start creating a new approval process for your sales team. And that starts by using the setup wizard to set some criteria and specify the approvers who are responsible for responding to approval requests.

 

Here’s how to start the approval process setup.

  1. From Setup, enter Approval Processes in the Setup search box, then select Approval Processes.
  2. From the combo box entitled Manage Approval Process For, select Opportunity.
  3. From there, navigate down to locate text reading Create New Approval Process. Press enter here, and two links will appear. select the Use Standard Setup Wizard link.  Then fill in these new approval process details:

    Unique Name

    Automates opportunity discount approvals

  4. Activate the Next button.
  5. In the combo box entitled Use this approval process if the following, select the option for criteria are met. then fill in the criteria:

    Opportunity: Discount Percentage

  6. Activate the Next button, then complete the approver field and record editability properties with these values:
    1. In the combo box entitled Next Automated Approver Determined By, select Manager
    2. Check the checkbox for Use Approver Field of Opportunity Owner
    3. Under the Record Editability Properties heading, choose the radio button for Administrators ONLY can edit records during the approval proces
  7. Activate the Next button.
  8. On this page, leave the Approval Assignment Email Template field blank.
  9. Activate the Next button, then determine the fields that will be displayed on the approval request page:
    1. Move the following fields from the Available Fields combo box to the Selected Fields combo box: Opportunity Name, Opportunity Owner, Amount, Discount Percentage
    2. Check the checkbox for Display approval history information in addition to the fields selected above.
    3. Under the Security Settings heading, select the radio button for Allow approvers to access the approval page only from within the salesforce.com application (Recommended)
      NOTE: Approval processes can be configured so that approvers can access the approval page from a wireless-enabled mobile device. If this option is chosen, you will not be able to create any approval steps that later allow users to manually choose who the approver should be.

  10. Activate the Next button, then specify the initial submitter by completing the submitter details:
    Field Value

    Submitter Type

    Owner

    Allowed Submitters

    Opportunity Owner

    Allow submitters to recall approval requests

    Deselect the checkbox

  11. Activate the Save button.
  12. On this page, select the radio button for I'll do this later, take me to the approval detail page to review what I've just created.
  13. Activate the Go! Button.
