Prepare for a Guru Connection (Beta)

Before you ingest your Guru cards to Data Cloud, you need to provide some details. Consult with your organization's Guru Admin or gather the following information before you get started.

This feature is a Beta Service. A customer may opt to try a Beta Service in its sole discretion. Any use of the Beta Service is subject to the applicable Beta Services Terms provided at Agreements and Terms. If you have questions or feedback about this Beta Service, contact the Data Cloud Connector team at datacloud-connectors-beta@salesforce.com.

There are two ways to authenticate:

  • User Token, which requires a User Email
  • Collection Token, which requires a Collection ID

Consult with your Guru admin about which authentication process to use and collect the relevant information.

If you're using the user token method of authentication complete all the steps in this section. If not, skip to the Collection Tokens section.

The following instructions are also available at Guru's help site.

To generate your user token:

  1. Navigate to the Apps & Integrations page under the Team Settings menu.
  2. Click on the API Access tab to manage your tokens.
  3. Generate an API token for yourself by selecting Generate User Token and entering your name. Click Generate token and the token appears.
  4. Click Copy to copy the token. Save it in a safe place because you will not see it again.

Once the token has been generated, you can't access it again. Save it in a safe place. If you need to regenerate the token, you must reconfigure all connectors associated with this token with the new token information.

For this step, you need the email address associated with the Guru account and Guru collection you want to ingest. Get the email address from the Guru administrator if you don’t know it.

If you're using the collection token method of authentication complete all the steps in this section. If not, skip to the User Tokens section.

  1. Log in to Guru at https://app.getguru.com/.
  2. If you don’t have one, create a collection.
  3. From the Collections menu, find the collection you are interested in uploading. Alternatively, ask your Guru manager for the URL to the Guru collection you want to use.
  4. Even if you want to focus on a specific folder in the Guru collection, you still need the ID and collection name. The structure of a Guru URL is similar to https://app.getguru.com/collections/ID/CollectionName. Note at the end of the URL is ID/CollectionName. Make sure to copy only this information and not the entire URL.

To use collection token authentication, you need to generate a collection token as described in Guru's documentation.

  1. In Guru, go to the API Access tab.
  2. Select Generate a New Collection Token.
  3. Select the desired Collection from the dropdown list.
  4. Select Generate Token. Your token appears in the field.

Once the token has been generated, you can't access it again. Save it in a safe place. If you need to regenerate the token, you must reconfigure all connectors associated with this token with the new token information.

If your Guru cards are tagged, you can use the tags as filters, selecting the cards you want to ingest. Learn more about how to apply tags to your Guru cards. When your collection content is uploaded, and you specify a list of tags any card tagged with any of the matching tags is included.

When creating your Guru structure, Guru collections often have folders to aid in the organizational hierarchy of your knowledge base. If you're using folders, add the folder names for the folders you want to include. See Managing folders in Guru for more information about creating folders. Create a list of folder names in the following format: CollectionName/foldername.

Proceed to Set Up a Guru Connection.
