Try It Out: Customize a Global Publisher Layout
Before we begin, let’s make sure we can add our actions to a global publisher layout. From Setup, enter “Chatter Settings” in the Quick Find box, then select Chatter Settings and select Enable Actions in the Publisher.
Now let’s get to that layout.
- From Setup, enter Publisher Layouts in the Quick Find box, then select Publisher Layouts.
Like page layouts and compact layouts, each global publisher layout can be assigned to a user profile. Because our recruiters have different needs from the rest of the company, let’s create a custom layout with actions tailored to their typical tasks. We’ll assign that layout to the Recruiter profile so that our standard employees, who don’t often need to do things like creating candidates or job applications, aren’t bogged down by irrelevant actions.
- Click New.
- Select Global Layout as the Existing Publisher Layout to clone.
- For Publisher Layout Name, enter Recruiter Layout.
- Click Save.
Let’s get rid of the actions that aren’t relevant to recruiters.
- Drag New Contact, Log a Call, New Opportunity, New Case, and New Lead back to the palette.
- Click the Quick Actions category in the palette.
- Drag New IT Position, New Standard Position,
New Application, and New Candidate into the
Quick Actions in the Salesforce Classic
Publisher section of
the layout so that they appear after Poll.
Actions in this section appear in the Chatter publisher in the full Salesforce site. But we also need to make sure that our recruiters have access to them in Salesforce1.
- Click Quick Save.
- In the Salesforce1 and Lightning Experience Actions section, click override the predefined actions.
- Using actions from the Salesforce1 & Lightning Actions category of the palette, make the Salesforce1 and Lightning Experience Actions section match the Quick Actions in the Salesforce Classic Publisher section.
- Click Save.
Now that we have a working publisher layout for recruiters, let’s make sure they can see it by assigning the new layout to the Recruiter profile.
- Click Publisher Layout Assignment.
- Click Edit Assignment, and change the publisher layout for the Recruiter profile to Recruiter Layout.
- Click Save.
