Create a Clone of an On-Demand Sandbox
Use Control Center to clone an existing on-demand sandbox.
To clone an on-demand sandbox, log in to Account Manager and verify you have the role Sandbox_API_User with a tenant filter in the format <realm_id>_sbx. For example, in the realm abcd, you see the Sandbox_API_User role with tenant filter abcd_sbx.
The source sandbox must be in either a Running or Stopped state before it can be cloned. Only one clone operation can be initiated at a time from a single sandbox. However, you can trigger multiple clone operations simultaneously as long as they originate from different source sandboxes within the same realm.
- Log in to Control Center.
- Select the realm where you want to create the clone.
- Click the Clone button next to the instance you want to clone.
- Complete the Clone On-Demand Sandbox form.
- Set the Time-to-live (TTL).
- Select the number of hours the cloned sandbox should remain active:
- 24 (default, minimum allowed for clones)
- 48
- 72
- 168 (1 week)
- 0 (infinite time - sandbox persists until manually deleted)
- Select the number of hours the cloned sandbox should remain active:
- Set the Resource Profile.
- Select the resource allocation:
- Medium
- Large
- X Large
- XX Large
You can select the same profile or a higher profile than the source sandbox. Profile downgrades are not allowed. The dropdown defaults to the source sandbox's current profile.
- Select the resource allocation:
- (Optional) Configure Notification Emails.
- To receive notifications, enter one or more email addresses, or leave the Retain Email Addresses option selected to use the same notification addresses configured for the source sandbox.
- Set the Time-to-live (TTL).
- Click Clone Instance. As the clone process initiates, the source sandbox status changes to Cloning. All actions (start, stop, reset, clone, delete) for the source sandbox are temporarily disabled until cloning completes.
The clone operation begins. Total duration is typically 10–30 minutes, depending on sandbox size and data volume.
