Import Existing Tokenized Payment Methods into Salesforce

Use this process to import and use your customers’ existing tokenized payment details in Salesforce. When you create Saved Payment Method (SPM) records, these tokens become available for transactions initiated directly from your Salesforce org.

This scenario is ideal for customers you're onboarding who have already tokenized their bank accounts or credit cards outside Salesforce using a payment gateway, including Salesforce native or third-party payment gateways. By mapping the existing tokens and related details to SPM records, Salesforce creates a unique Saved Payment Method ID for each imported record. This makes the payment method ready for future transactions.

There are some important considerations to keep in mind when you use this approach:

  • The SavedPaymentMethod object is available as a standard sObject resource, allowing you to create and delete SPM records.
  • The SavedPaymentMethod object is customizable. A Salesforce Admin can add custom fields for capturing additional payment gateway details not supported by the standard fields.

Before you begin, make sure your Salesforce organization and the user performing the operation meet these requirements:

  • Read-write access to the SavedPaymentMethod object.
  • Salesforce Payments license and ManageMySavedPaymentMethods user permission.
  • ManageSavedPaymentMethods user permission and Revenue Cloud license.
