Set Up UTM and Custom Parameter Capture

You can add UTM and custom UTM parameters to capture marketing campaign data to store in Data Cloud. You can add parameters to new or existing connections.

Before getting started, note these limitations.

  • You can add a maximum of 50 custom parameters.
  • Custom parameters are case insensitive. For example, 'custom' and 'CuStOM' are treated as the same parameter.
  • You cannot update custom parameters after you save the connector. If you need to modify the parameters after saving the connector, you must create a new connection and re-add the parameters.
  • When updating the custom parameters of an existing stream, the events can take up to one hour to appear in the newly added columns. For example, this would be true if you’ve enabled UTM on a connector and it has started ingesting data, and you then update it to include new custom parameters.
  1. In Salesforce, click Setup, and then select Data Cloud Setup.
  2. Click Web & Mobile SDK, and select a web connection.
  3. From the Optional Information to Capture section, click Define URL parameters.
  4. Select the checkbox to enable capture of standard UTM parameters.
  5. To add a custom parameter, click Add Custom Parameter, and enter a name for the parameter.
  6. Navigate to the data streams for this connector and click Sync Schema, and then click Update.

The UTM parameters are added to the data streams. They are also added to any new data streams for that connection.
