On-Demand Sandbox Operation Scheduler
The Operation Scheduler gives you control over how many on-demand sandboxes (ODS) are active and for how long. Because ODS instances are based on usage, the scheduler helps manage consumption in the form of credits available to you. You can define realm-level and instance-level stop and start schedulers.
Realm-level schedulers apply to any sandbox in a realm, provided you turn on the schedule for each sandbox. Individual sandbox schedulers control individual sandbox availability, which gives you granular control over resource management beyond the existing realm-level scheduling.
Review the differences of each ODS scheduler type.
| Feature | Realm Scheduler | Individual Sandbox Scheduler |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Applies to all on-demand sandboxes in a realm where the schedule is active. | Applies only to a single, specific on-demand sandbox instance. |
| Control | Sets a global start and stop schedule across a group of sandboxes. | Sets specific time, day, and operation settings for one instance. |
| Override | Superseded by any individual sandbox schedule. | Any individual sandbox level overrides the corresponding realm scheduler settings for that specific sandbox. |
| Use | Ideal for setting a company-wide or department-wide standard schedule. For example, you can stop all instances after business hours. | Ideal for creating exceptions to the realm schedule for teams in different time zones or for mission-critical sandboxes that require specific operational windows. |
